the-careers-and-enterprise-company-logoThe CSW Group Mentoring project aims to raise the aspirations of students, motivate them and improve their employability skills. It will support over 500 students during the 2017/18 academic year.

Mentoring is a powerful personal development and empowerment tool. It is an effective way of helping people to progress in their careers and is becoming increasing popular as its potential is realised. Mentoring is a helpful relationship based upon mutual trust and respect.

A mentor is a person outside of the school environment who can help to raise the aspirations of students, motivate them and improve their employability skills. Individuals can expect to find the role of mentor rewarding and engaging.  They will be able to use their skills, experience and knowledge to be able to support a young person (or more than one) to build their confidence, explore their ambitions and future opportunities, and contribute towards their engagement and attainment in school.

The young person can expect their mentor to share their life experience and knowledge of the work environment to enhance their knowledge of the wide-ranging careers they could consider. There may also be additional support through signposting to work experience, careers support and FE.

These relationships between the schools and the mentors could forge lasting connections and bridge the gap between the business community and local schools.

Becoming a mentor can also provide useful CPD for staff and enhance their skills, which could support their own studies and career path. As well as developing lasting relationships between the school and business. Click here for more information.
