CSW Group is delighted to be delivering Generation STEM – a new Work Experience Programme for Year 10 students in school across the South West.

The programme is being funded by a partnership between the EEF, the Careers & Enterprise Company and Bank of America Merrill Lynch. The three organisations have committed to test different approaches to careers education to find out which are the most likely to boost young people’s chances of securing a job after school.

All mainstream secondary schools across the wider south west were invited to participate, with 130 being offered places in either the delivery or control groups. The programme is running throughout the 2017-18 academic year and will provide young people and schools with a new approach to work experience – with a specific focus on STEM, that will include a ‘Work Preparation Day’, applications, interviews and full briefing / de-briefing of the work experience placement.

Working with employers

We are supporting employers across the wider south west to offer high-quality, STEM-related work experience that benefit the organisation just as much as the young people on placement.

If you are an employer considering offering a work experience placement, please see our ‘Generation STEM – information for employers‘ leaflet and contact workexperience@cswgroup.co.uk to arrange an appointment with one of our Project Coordinators who will guide you through the process.

Volunteers needed for Work Preparation Days!

During the spring and summer terms Year 10 students at 58 secondary schools across the south west will be taking part in Work Preparation Days relating to employability skills and focusing on the expectations that employers have of young people when they apply for jobs and behaviors they expect in the workplace.

Our delivery relies on volunteers from employers to come and act as ‘Business Partners’, guiding students through a series of activities around application writing, interview techniques and understanding what soft skills employers are looking for in young people.

If you enjoy engaging with students and are enthusiastic about inspiring the next generation this would definitely suit you!
